Weeks 1 & 2: by Sarah

I'm sorry it has taken so long for us to post an update about our trip.  It has been so busy these last two weeks.  I finally had a chance to sit down and use the computer for a while earlier this week, but then the power went out!  Just my luck.

Anyway, our first week at TLC was a little bit hard at first.  Our trip over was very long and tiring, but everything went well, and we arrived with all our luggage intact.  The hardest part about getting back into TLC life is getting used to a different group of volunteers than was here last time.  Last summer, everyone worked together so well as a team, so it's hard to come back and see one or two people try to take over everything.  Other than that, everything has been great.  Most of us volunteers get along really well together, and it is fun getting to know people from different countries.  There are about 20 volunteers from Denmark, England, Germany, Canada, and America.

The best thing about coming back has been seeing all the kids that were here last summer when we were here and seeing how much they've grown and developed.  Right now, there are 42 children in the nursery- the most TLC has every had!  They are split up into four different sections.  There is the nest, which is all the youngest and smallest babies.  The oldest in that room is actually almost 6 months, but she was very premature and is still very small.  The next group is the Fledgies.  Most of the babies in that group are about 3-7 months and the oldest are just  starting to eat cereal.  The grubs are babies from about 6 mos. - 1 year.  They are eating mainly solids and are starting to sit up and crawl and things like that.  Then we have the Creepies.  At the moment their are five boys in the Creepy group, and 4 of them have special needs, such as slight cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol syndrome, and deafness.  So that is an interesting group just because you get to see so much progress every day.  The final and oldest group is the Lions.  There are 6 children in that group, who are all walking, talking, dancing, and acting crazy.

Well, hopefully I'll be able to get back on here soon for another update!

You two are doing such a wonderful thing. I'm going to link your blog to mine so I can keep checking for updates. I hope you both have a great Christmas and a wonderful New Year over there and enjoy your time with all of those babies.

I love your photos! The children are our future we need to take care of them.
I'd love to link up to you but don't know how.
